Philadelphia, PA: Home of the Cheesesteak
The famous cheesesteak topped with fried onions and mushrooms and Provolone cheese slices at a South Philly sandwich shop.
Next photo, workers as they fry up the famous cheese steak that will be topped with fried onions and American or Provolone cheese slices or "Cheez-Whiz" at a South Philly restaurant - notice can of Cheeze-Whiz in foreground. Finally, a cheesesteak is served with cheese slices laid under the chopped and fried steak, all packed into a fresh and crisp sliced Italian sandwich roll.
How to make a Philly Cheesesteak
Worker fries up the famous cheese steak that will be topped with fried onions and American or Provolone cheese slices or "Cheez-Whiz". Some add mushrooms and peppers. This version melts cheese on top of the steaming chopped steak while it steams on the grill. Worker also adds a special tomato sause to this one, although most Philadelphians prefer their cheesesteak without sauce. Sandwich is best hot right off the grill and drpping with grease that gets absorbed into the bun. Yum.
